A PORTRAIT OF A MIND Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (1746–1828) is know as the most influential painter of modern finesse from fresh eighteenth ampere-second to early nineteenth century Spain. These scenes were influenced by Velazquez royal paintings, which he studied while in Rome. A great facsimile of this stage of royal paintings is the portrait of Charles IV and His Family (1801).

The portrait is similar to Velazquez’s portrait Las Meninas (1656) in the sort that he represents himself in the painting behind an easel and leaves activities in the painting to the viewer’s imagination. By 1789 Goya was the court painter under t! he regime of Charles IV; however, his accel seasonted career was halted by the invasion of the French. The invasion ended the era of Enlightenment that had been favored since the reign of Charles III (1759-1788).
